Frequently asked questions

Do I have to register my hands when I become a black belt?

Not at all, that is an urban myth. Martial Artists are not required to register their hands.

Does my child have to be in good shape before they start?

No, they will get into shape as they train. We have a series of exercises that they will learn as they progress through our ranking system which will enable them to perform kicks, forms and self defense techniques at a progressively higher level.

We am very busy with our work schedules, how much time does my child need to devote to martial arts classes?

The three 1 hour classes a week are highly recommended, as is practicing at home. However if you need to miss a day here or there it will not hurt their progress in any way.

As they progress through the ranks if you want more 1:1 attention we offer 30 minute and 60 minute private lessons which can further help hone their skills.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

In our program it takes roughly 5-6 years, when enrolling in our youth classes, to earn a black belt.

Does martial arts make kids violent?

Absolutely not! Martial arts is about peace, harmony and diplomacy. It teaches children how to AVOID fights - not pick them. We teach that using martial arts is ONLY as a last resort.

Do boys and girls take martial arts?

Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much “stronger and tougher,” but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!

What type of martial art do you practice?

Here at Pittsburg Elite we practice Taekwondo as part of our traditional froms. We also blend in a self-defense from multiple different arts as well as a bit of tricking. Tricking is a hybrid of martial arts kicks with flips and spins in multiple different angles.

Do you spar in your program?

Yes, from white belt to black belt we belive sparring is an intrical part of martial arts. We do have padding for new students, including helmets, gloves, boots, and chest protectors. We want sparring to be an enjoyable experience for everyone but we understand new students may find it a bit intimidating.
